Good Luck, Travel Well

This last Monday I had to say farewell to one of my closest and dearest friends, Sara.

Our lives have taken us different directions in the last month, and while mine kept me in Kansas City; her life led her to Chicago. I am so excited and hopeful for our futures, but will miss her terribly.

It’s not often that you stumble upon best friendships in life. Best friendships usually take time and cultivation and building of trust. That’s not to say that this friendship didn’t take those things; it was just a little more, well… instant.

I met Sara at a job interview, funny enough. A fifteen to twenty minute job interview that suddenly turned into a two and a half hour job interview.  To say that we instantly hit it off would be an understatement.

She is magnetic; and if you ever have the chance of meeting her, you will pick up on this quality instantly. Sara loves people more than anyone I’ve met, and to that statement, people love her back.

Sara is the kind of friend that makes you feel instantly comfortable and makes you see yourself better. She’s the best reflection mirror I’ve ever met. And girlfriend will give it to you straight! Ha. She kind of drills out the honesty in conversations; the things that you’re turning an eye to, or failing to recognize. I can’t explain how she does it, either. It’s such open, obvious honesty, but explained in such a way that all you can do is appreciate and acknowledge it… and most of all thank her for it.

I have laughed and cried and had all night long dance parties with Sara. I can’t even begin to describe how close our group has become and the experiences that all of us have been lucky enough to share. We started 2010 with a ridiculously random NYE, we hiked the Konza prairie, we celebrated Gavin’s 30th birthday; we’ve had game nights, sleepovers, dance parties, night tides, and numerous other entertaining events. Most of all, we have become each other’s family.

Sara, you will be missed, but you will be visited often. You will always have a family and a home in Kansas City. We send you off with love in our hearts. Good luck!
